We are a friendly club, although we are quite competitive! We currently have teams in the South Cambridgeshire and Newmarket leagues.  We have strong ties with the County teams.

We are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Cambridge, with the club being founded in 1926.

We typically have around 35 adult members, so there is a good mix of people and plenty of opportunity to be on court at club nights.

We have an active Junior Club, which runs sessions on Saturday afternoons. Please see the Junior Club page for details.

Matches are played on Fridays evenings. Club nights for adults are on Mondays and are of a high standard, but not so competitive.

Hurst AGM - Tonight

A reminder that it is the Hurst Badminton Club AGM this Monday evening, May 13th. Rather than hold it at Chesterton College we thought that this year we would see if holding it in a pub would help increase attendance! So, the venue is the Carlton Arms Pub (Carlton Way, Cambridge CB4 2DF) and we have also moved the start time back slightly to 7:30pm. Apologies that this clashes with the summer club, but we are rather limited with dates. Should all be done by 9pm at the latest.

Look forward to seeing a good few of you there, including hopefully a few volunteers willing to help lighten the load on a rather weary committee.

Many thanks,
Chris

Hurst BC Adult Summer Club

Hurst BC members are again running a summer club at the Manor School again this year.

The first night will be on Monday 13th May, 8:00-10:00pm, and will carry on going until club starts again.

These sessions are run by Hurst members, but separate from the main Hurst BC.

It will be the same set up as last summer: £10 the first time you come and then £5 each time afterwards.

For further information, email Adam Moffat.

Hurst Badminton Club AGM

This is to let you know that the Annual General Meeting of Hurst Badminton Club will be held on Monday May 13th. The venue is still to be confirmed but it will be in Cambridge and will start at 7pm. Please be there if you can - there are quite a few important issues to be discussed which will impact on club next season.

One thing to flag in advance: as well as needing to add to the number of overall members of the committee, we would like to add next season the position of Membership Secretary. This person will help manage all of the membership details for the club, including sorting out subscriptions and affiliation to Badminton England. It’s not a big task but currently falls to the Secretary and Treasurer, and we are keen to try and spread the load of running the club. If you think you would be able to take on this role please let me know – many thanks.

Look forward to seeing plenty of you on Monday. I will confirm the location as soon as I can!

Many thanks,
Chris

Selection 2012-13

Hi everyone.

Hope you are all geared up for the match-playing part of the new season. Please find attached the current version of our fixtures list for the coming season. Because of limited court hours, and an increasing number of teams who play matches on Friday night, there are still three fixtures which need finalising which is part of the reason why there has been a delay in getting this list out to you. Hopefully, the rest should not need to be changed again.

Due to a number of ladies turning up this year and deciding not to join Hurst, we have a really limited number of ladies available for matches. This means that we cannot currently confirm that we will be able to put out a Mixed 3 team this year, which would be a real shame as the team got promoted from Division 3 to Division 2 last season. If you know of ladies of a reasonable standard who might be interested in playing for us, please invite them down. And if new ladies do turn up, please do talk to them and make them feel welcome.

Also, please be aware that match fees of £5 per match will be collected after the match by team captains this year, rather than paid direct to Dianne.

As is the case every year, the selection committee (this year, Di, Jo, David, Sam and Alex) have been checking out your performances over the last month and these, together with your results from previous seasons, have resulted in our team selection for the coming season.

The teams are shown on the team pages.

Pairings have been suggested within each mixed team, but are ultimately the responsibility of the team captain. For Mens and Ladies, the pairings are entirely at the discretion of the team captain. In the event that any of the main team members are unable to play, selection of reserves is also at the discretion of the captain.

Good luck for the season ahead!
