Hurst Junior Club

Hurst Junior Badminton Club is a thriving junior club which runs three sessions during the badminton season and summer term (September-June) at the Cambridge Regional College Sports Centre:

  • Friday nights 6:15-7:15pm;
  • Friday nights 7:15-8:15pm; and
  • Saturday afternoons 2:00-4:00pm.

The Head Coaches are all Badminton England registered coaches: Sam Scharf, who represents Cambridgeshire in the senior Ist team, Paul Martell who has represented Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire at many levels, and Daniel Bates, a national Masters player who captained the Cambridgeshire IInd team for many years.

Sam, Paul and Daniel are assisted by other Badminton England coaches and members of the Senior club.  All adults involved with the club are DBS checked, and follow strict child protection guidelines.

For further information about the junior club, or if your child would like to come along to try it out, please email Sam at with regards the Friday sessions, or Paul at for Saturday.

Big Shots

Hurst Juniors is part of the Big Shots family of clubs. Big Shots is the overarching name given to a growing number of junior badminton clubs that fit into certain philosophy of training and playing.

We try our hardest to inspire kids of all ages to:

  • Have fun and enjoy the sport;
  • Train hard;
  • Succeed in their aspirations whatever they might be.

We aspire to work alongside other coaches and clubs in Cambridgeshire to jointly improve the opportunities and standards for all juniors.

The structure of our work fits with Badminton England training structure around Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). This is brought together with coaching ideas developed from UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA).
