We are a friendly club, although we are quite competitive! We currently have teams in the South Cambridgeshire League playing in the Premier division for Mens, Ladies and Mixed doubles, and other teams in other divisions too.  We have strong ties with the County teams.

We are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Cambridge and have recently celebrated our 85th Anniversary! We typically have around 35 adult members, so there is a good mix of people and plenty of opportunity to be on court at clubnights.

We have an active Junior Club, which runs sessions before matches on a Friday night, and on Saturday afternoons. Please see the Junior Club page for details.

Matches are played on Fridays after the Junior Club. Club nights for adults are on Mondays and are of a high standard, but not so competitive. Club nights finish at 10pm and there is a contingent that is usually happy to go to the pub afterwards!

Rules re subscriptions and match fees:

Subscriptions for the new season are: £150 for full adult members and £100 for students in full time education.  These are to be paid by 30th September, and anyone having not paid will not be eligible to play matches, and may face not being able to play at club. (Anyone joining late in the season will need to pay their adjusted sub before becoming eligible to play any matches). Match fees will no longer be paid in a lump sum. They should be paid to the captain on the night of the match and are £5 per match.

The treasurer apologises for these strict rules but they are necessary in order for the club to run smoothly.

Hurst 2013-14 Teams

Hi everyone.

Hope you are all geared up for the match-playing part of the new season. Please find attached the current version of our fixtures list for the coming season. There are still three fixtures which need finalising (Ladies vs Haverhill, Mixed 2 vs the University and Mixed 3 vs Hawks) which is part of the reason why there has been a delay in getting this list out to you. Hopefully, the rest should not need to be changed.

Match fees are still £5 per match and will be collected after the match by team captains. Please try to remember to bring money along and to make their job easier, don’t wait to be asked for the money.

As is the case every year, the selection committee (this year, Di, Jo, Sam and Alex) have been checking out your performances over the last month and these, together with your results from previous seasons has resulted in our team selection for the coming season. The teams are listed in alphabetical order (first name) and not in order of ranking / ability within the team. They are as follows:

Ladies (Premier)
Dianne
Katie
Letitia
Phillippa (Captain)
Sammy
Vicky
Reserves from:
Carol, Jo, Helen, Xin

Mens 1 (Premier)
Abu
Dan
Matt
Paul (Captain)
Sam
Sanjeev

Mens 2 (Div 1)
Adam G
Aiden
Chris W
John (Captain)
Kaylan
Will C

Mens 3 (Div 1)
Abdul
Adam M (Captain)
Alex
Chris H
Chris K
Ian

Mixed 1 (Premier)
Dianne (Captain) & Matt
Katie & Paul
Vicky & John

Mixed 2 (Div 1)
Sammy & Sanjeev
Letitia & Alex (Captain)
Helen & Chris W
Reserve: Chris H

Mixed 3 (Div 3)
Carol & Abdul
Xin & Adam G
TBC & Ian
Reserves from Adam M, Chris K, Eve, Angela

Pairings have been suggested within each mixed team, but are ultimately the responsibility of the team captain. For Mens and Ladies, the pairings are entirely at the discretion of the team captain. In the event that any of the main team members are unable to play, selection of reserves is also at the discretion of the captain unless specified above. The fixtures list has also been attached, and a separate document (Captains responsibilities) will be separately circulated to all Captains.

Good luck for the season ahead!

Hurst AGM - Tonight

A reminder that it is the Hurst Badminton Club AGM this Monday evening, May 13th. Rather than hold it at Chesterton College we thought that this year we would see if holding it in a pub would help increase attendance! So, the venue is the Carlton Arms Pub (Carlton Way, Cambridge CB4 2DF) and we have also moved the start time back slightly to 7:30pm. Apologies that this clashes with the summer club, but we are rather limited with dates. Should all be done by 9pm at the latest.

Look forward to seeing a good few of you there, including hopefully a few volunteers willing to help lighten the load on a rather weary committee.

Many thanks,
Chris

Hurst BC Adult Summer Club

Hurst BC members are again running a summer club at the Manor School again this year.

The first night will be on Monday 13th May, 8:00-10:00pm, and will carry on going until club starts again.

These sessions are run by Hurst members, but separate from the main Hurst BC.

It will be the same set up as last summer: £10 the first time you come and then £5 each time afterwards.

For further information, email Adam Moffat.
